Short Review - Trillion: God of Destruction

To be honest, I had no clue what to expect from Trillion: God of Destruction. I didn’t pay much attention to the PR emails I was getting and all I knew it was made by some ex-Disgaea folks. When I was downloading the game I thought this was going to be just like Disgaea but with a Compile Heart twist. In the end, I wished it was like Disgaea.

Read our original review on Neptunia U here

Having thoroughly toured the world of the JRPG, Neptune and company now venture out into the world of the arena brawler. Once again their fight takes place in Gamindustri, a world full of puns and jokes poking fun at the real world of Japanese game development. Instead of taking part in the main series Console Wars, however, this time the team is battling to show off for Dengekiko and Famitsu, two reporters based on the Japanese game magazines. The plot is a side story to the main series, removed from any stakes or events that occur there, and essentially exists to set up a reason for you to make each character brawl against hundreds of enemies.

Firewatch Review

Second Opinion by Marie (@PowerfulOrb)

  • Firewatch
  • Developer- Campo Santo
  • Publisher- Panic Inc, Campo Santo
  • PC (Windows, OSX, Linux), PS4

Firewatch is about the things that go unsaid. It’s a game where you dwell on the things you said, not because they lead you to the bad ending, but because you wish you could say something that made the other person feel better. It’s concerned with where we go when we’re alone with our thoughts, and with the empty moments we stay busy to avoid. Firewatch understands that negative space is as much a part of a composition, as the elements that fill it.

Megadimension  Neptunia VII review

Nep Nep is no longer held back by the power of the cell. This time we get to see Neptune and co. shine in 8 GBs of GDDR5. Compile Heart’s Neptunia series has finally landed on the 8th generation of consoles, but will it offer anything new and exciting other than a fresh coat of paint?

Yakuza 5 Review

  • Yakuza 5

Yakuza is probably the only series that can remain tonally coherent while moving between taxi driving, prison brawls, idol performances and detailed hunting games. Soaked in absolute melodrama, Yakuza 5 is just as much a soap opera as every game before it. And like those it has cities full of miniature stories, distractions and a sheer sense of density that makes it stand out in a year overrun with open world games.

Short Reviews - Need For Speed

You would think that for game developers, taking a year break from an annual activity, would mean that their product has more time dedicated for improvement. Hence why annual titles, like the Call of Duty franchise, tend to be unremarkable. Having to churn out a game every year puts you on a tight schedule, where tough decisions have to be made in order to make the release date. This was the unfortunate case with the Need for Speed series. As a result, most of the series titles were less than stellar, save for Criterion Games Need For Speed Most Wanted (2012), although that game is basically Burnout Paradise 2.

Short Reviews - Evangelion New Theatrical Edition: 3nd Impact

  • Evangelion New Theatrical Edition: 3nd Impact
  • Developer - Grasshopper Manufacturer
  • Publisher - Namco Bandai
  • PlayStation Portable
  • Rating - CERO C

*Note: This game is in Japanese only.

Here’s a heads up. The core staff of this site….well mostly Omar, Ryan, and I love Evangelion. (Well I’m not sure about Omar, but I’m sure he appreciates it) Heck, our site runs on Evangelion jokes (Editors Note: *insert long rant about what convoluted nonsense Evangelion 3.33 is, even by Eva standards).

3nd Impact is a wonderful rhythm game based around the music featured in the reboot movies. The name is a pun on third impact. With third being pronounced as saado in Japanese and combined with -nd, it is some weird hybrid word that makes it pronounced as sound. So “Sound Impact”. It sounds silly, the name sounds silly, but it’s actually pretty dang good.
