  • Valkryia Revolution
  • Developer - Media Vision
  • Publisher - SEGA
  • Xbox One, PlayStation 4, PlayStaion Vita

Alternative universes provide a fresh take to well established stories. However sometimes that fresh new take ends up being more rotten than what you can find in your nearest dumpster. Valkryia Revolution is sadly rotten packaged software that belongs in that dumpster.

SUPERBEAT: XONiC (PS4) Review

  • SUPERBEAT: XONiC
  • Developer - Nurijoy

  • PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PlaySation Vita

Last night my friends and I were playing Konami’s Beatmania for the PlayStation 2. Frustrated at the amount of input lag on my television we decided to switch to another videogame. I decided to show them SUPERBEAT: XONiC. One of my friends asked how the controls work for the game, but she quickly learned how to play within seconds. Within a few hours, the Beatmania controller was left to the corner while XONiC was blasting away on the screen.

Dark Rose Valkyrie Review

  • Dark Rose Valkyrie
  • Developer - Compile Heart

  • PlayStation 4

“It’s time to look for some cute girls,” says the protagonist when you launch the game. The line is signature Compile Heart. At this point you probably know what you are going to get. Fanservice with cheeky silly humor. However every now and then they try to shake it up a bit. Dark Rose Valkyrie is the result of the folks over at Compile Heart kidnapping a few Namco employees who have worked on the Tales of series and asking them to implement that signature Compile Heart feel.

Hakuoki: Kyoto Winds Review

Otome games aren’t my thing. I don’t hate them, but I haven’t played one until now. So I came in assuming that this game was nothing about yaoi pretty boys that just happens to be set in 1800s Japan. Which I was looking forward too, because that premised sounded pretty funny in my mind. I didn’t get that plot though; instead I got quite an adventure.

Super Bomberman R Review

• Super Bomberman R
• Developer - Konami
• Publisher - Konami
• Nintendo Switch

Good news: it’s our first Nintendo Switch review! In not so stellar news: I mostly feel the same way about it that other’s do. Super Bomberman R is the first title in seven years to get some form of a physical release, making it seemingly feel like a full, robust game unlike the past downloadable titles that were a core Bomberman experience based around its traditional form, and Bomberman: Act Zero if we’re really going to bring up that game. For the first game in seven years, Super Bomberman R does a lot of things okay, and a lot of other things really, really not-so-well, mostly fumbling in the single player/co-op story and lacking a full bodied multiplayer experience that one would expect from a near full-price physical release.

As I finished hogging up the Taiko machine at Round One, it was time to go back home. What game do I play on my commute back? Taiko of course.

Hatsune Miku: Project Diva Future Tone Short Review

image

By: RJ (@rga_02)

  • Hatsune Miku: Project DIVA Future Tone
  • Developer - SEGA
  • Publisher - SEGA
  • PlayStation 4 (and your local arcade)

Miku seems to be poised to be the new mascot of SEGA overtaking the likes of Sonic or Sega Sanshiro. I’m kidding of course, but she has had wonderful reception in the Western World as of late. Her games are being localized, appearing on late night talk shows, and she happens to be friends with Scarlett Johansson. It’s only natural for her to get a new game.

Trillion: God of Destruction PC Review

Strategy role playing games aren’t my natural forte; I lend my skills to twitchier, action oriented games which Trillion: God of Destruction is most certainly not. My only experience with sRPG’s to date are the Fire Emblem series which I’m not innocent from save scumming, and watching a few friends mill through Final Fantasy Tactics on a whim. Compile Heart takes some bold steps with their title, and throwing in rudimentary visual novel dialogue here and there certainly makes for a compelling mix of genres, but there’s a lot that is left to be desired with Trillion that asked me if I was really being rewarded for my efforts, and if the unique concepts they threw in really made up for it.
