Sunset is a game about being caught between worlds. Told in half hour segments before sunset, it tells the story of Angela, a Black university graduate from Baltimore living as a housekeeper in a Latin American country on the verge of revolution. It’s a narrative both reverent and stumbling. Ambitious and vibrant, but still finding its way.

When coming overseas, Not A Hero loses a bit of Humour.

I’ve played quite a bit of Not A Hero lately. It’s a solid game from the people who brought us Olli Olli. It doesn’t hit on as many points as their previous game did, largely due to a sense of level design that chops up the pace of the game, and makes the proceedings a bit more frustrating when you fail. In that way it reminds me a bit of Vanquish, a game that presents an incredible sense of mastery over your hostile environment when it all aligns and you nail it, but can frustrate up until your able to. What struck me more than that, however, was its sense of humour.

FIFA 16 has women in it, so what?

image

By: RJ (@rga_02)

Recently EA announced that 12 women’s national team would be included in their upcoming FIFA 16 and I was excited to hear that announcement. Soccer/Football is my favorite sport and as much as I love to give EA a lot of flack, I’m one of those people who buys their latest iteration of FIFA each year. For EA to place various women’s nationals teams such as United States, Spain, etc. in the game is wonderful. More people would be exposed to the other side of Football that isn’t well covered, but some people aren’t very happy about the recent addition.

The existential terror of our online, transient worlds

Konami has announced the cancellation of Silent Hills, the ephemeral new entry in their horror franchise. With it came the takedown of P.T. from the Playstation Store, the removal of the ability to redownload the game for previous owners, and blowback against users attempting to sell PS4s with copies of the game on eBay.

Recently, NBA2K14 had its servers taken down by its publisher. While this is standard business practice for older games, especially sports titles, this one was especially notable because 2K14 was built around online play. Not only were multiplayer options removed, but players’ career modes, characters and single player progress was wiped as well.

In April 2015, the Entertainment Software Association declared that attempts to preserve abandoned games, even by archivists or museums, was illegal, calling it too close to piracy or hacking.

Digital worlds are disappearing. Our history is being erased.

Tom Petty releases whole catalog in Hi-Res

By: Kevin (@Prufesuroak)

In the light of Tom Petty releasing his whole catalog in Hi-res 24bit 96kHz (24 bit depth processing and 96kHz sampling rate), which brings out the intricate little details that were previously unheard outside of the band themselves, producers and select few who were blessed with hearing the recordings. You would be surprised how much improved audio quality can breath life into songs you’ve listen to a million times. So I thought it would be a good idea to recommend this album.

The Sounds of 2014: St. Vincent’s St. Vincent

image

By Kevin (@Prufesuroak)

The Sounds of 2014 is a year end round up of the albums that stuck with us this.

Annie Clark once said “I wanted to make a party record you could play at a funeral.“ in a press release, and this pretty much is the perfect description for her fourth solo album simple titled St. Vincent, released on February 24, 2014.

Upon first listening to it earlier this year I never made anything of it, I just saw it as just another St. Vincent album but looking at my most played songs from this year, I realized that a few songs from the album ranked pretty high on that list. It was always played but I never realized it. It was played enough to a point that I was oblivious to it being on. And then I realized that in a way the more I love a song the less I notice it.
