Paul's Top Five Nintendo Games

By Paul (@MrHarkinian)

Ah, Nintendo. It seems like they’ve been around forever, which is actually not far from the truth, since the company’s celebrating its 125th anniversary! So, to mark this momentous occasion, I will actually write an article. Specifically, my top 5 favorite Nintendo games. Keep in mind, these are in no particular order.

5. Donkey Kong (Game Boy)

The original Donkey Kong was a huge success in arcades with its frantic but fun gameplay. As fun as that game was, however, it was the 1994 Game Boy that I remember the most. This game is great fun because it has the original charm of the arcade game with a huge assortment of levels and challenges thrown in. It is a Game Boy essential!

4. Metroid Fusion / Zero Mission (GBA)

These games are tied on my list because it’s not fair to talk about one and leave the other out or put both of these as separate games on my list. Both games are great because they represent the literal beginning and the end of Samus Aran’s story, with Zero Mission being the origin while Fusion is the most current title cannon wise. I have spent countless hours battling Metroids and the X infected bosses, conquering foes and discovering secrets. It’s all the greatness of Metroid on the go!

3.The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past (SNES)

This particular Zelda game is special to me because it is the first Zelda game I have beaten. It’s also the best looking and playing of the early Zelda games. This game was to me was what Ocarina of Time was to many others, although I don’t feel the same about OoT as I do about LttP. And honestly, both games are very similar; with the ability to travel between different points in the game, the light and dark world in LttP and the past and future in OoT. A fun game in a great series!

2. Rhythm Heaven: Fever (Wii)

Rhythm games are always good fun, but this one is great because it is a fun game to look at and has a fantastic soundtrack to boot! All the games, while simplistic, can be challenging at times with the strict timing and quick pace. With all the junky rhythm games that flooded the market, this one is definitely one to check out!

1. Kirby Super Star Ultra (NDS)

While the original on SNES was great, it was this one that I adore most. Super Star Ultra is just as good as the SNES version, plus with more awesome content than the original, including more bosses, challenges, and mini games. The game is immensely fun and rewarding and it looks amazing, especially on the DS’s awesome screens. Definitely an awesome game to check out if you are a Kirby fan!
