My taste could be either considered as generic hipster trash to some, while others might view my taste for the plebeians in their patrician eyes. Regardless of ones opinion, music is still music. You listen to a song to unwind at the end of the day. To have fun, or to have you thinking. And the following albums get that job done for me.
VI) World is Yours - MASS OF THE FERMENTING DREGS
I remember the day when I first heard this album. It was on a flight to Honolulu. I was playing some weeaboo trash on my PSP when the person siting next to me noticed that I an affinity for Japanese culture. We talked and our conversation landed straight into music then she pulled out her laptop and busted this album. I instantly fell in love. Their melodic voices with smooth guitar rifts make this album a great listen on long flights and those clichéd long walks around downtown.
V) Post - Björk
Post is a fun album to listen too. Not ironic fun™ but actual fun. Whenever I listen to this album, it feels like I am on a psychedelic trip with Björk herself. The lyrics are filled with her dreams, imaginations, & hope blends together beautifully to produce that industrial and trip-hop feel.
IV) Halou - Halou
Dream Pop at its finest. The vocals and sound come together in harmony producing a soothing melody like no other. On the very rare occasions that I just happen to be angry, this album sooths me down to a blissful state of mind. Whenever I fall victim of insomnia, this album puts me to sleep - in a good way.
III) Siempre Buenos Aries - Leopoldo Federico
I really don’t have much to say about this album to be honest. I just love it. I could use some buzzwords to describe how the bandoneón is used masterfully here, but why bother? In many cases, it’s a good thing to say next to nothing about something you love. And for me, it applies for this album.
II) MM..Food? - MF Doom
While the album may have common themes found in other rap ablum such as getting women, smoking weed erryday, etc. Doom delivers them in such a quirky matter that will make you smirk but not to the point where it is reaches parody status. The lyrics are filled with irony & straight to the point humor that I feel anyone to appreciate and enjoy, even those who are not fond of the genre.
I) In The Aeroplane Over The Sea - Neutral Milk Hotel
A few weeks ago, I did a write up on why I adored this album. Charming yet at the same time very haunting, In The Aeroplane Over the Sea changed my view on music as a whole. Thanks to the album I now try to dig deeper into lyrics, trying to discover and understand the message they intended to bring. It may be baby’s first indie album, but I’m glad it’s part of my library.
