Remember Summer Days
二度ともどらないの
思い出も 今 波が洗い流すわ
Oh I love you
忘れられないけど 冬になったら
別の恋するわ- from ANRI’s song Summer Days
Maybe I’m just feeling old, or maybe I’m just feeling overly dramatic. At the time of this review I’m only 24-years-old but in two months time I’m going to get a piece of paper saying I’m qualified to write. It will also be the start of summer. Usually summer is the time when I will finally get to relax, but this time it’s when “real life” will start for me.
With that in mind I was feeling nostalgic for summer days of my youth and I stumbled upon the game, the last day of summer.
This is a text based game about the creator - whose name is Benji - and their personal narrative about summer. Despite it being their personal stories it was enough for me to slip into their shoes and fully immerse myself into their life story of days gone by.
There are eight choices from the begging. Me being me I decided to go to the mall.
You are greeted with a phrase that says, “the sights are too familiar,” a simple phrase for resonated with me hard as I spent a lot of my summers wasting it inside the confines of a mall. There you have three more options, one of them going to an anime shop. Of course my weeaboo self is gonna go to one.
With this choice, apparently I convinced my friends to buy Tenchi Muyo!
Bored of the mall, I decided to take a long drive around. Summer was also that time where driving was more enjoyable than ever. You didn’t have to worry about snow, rain, etc. - driving during the summer felt endless…..until you ran out of gas.
If you didn’t run out of gas, it was time to go to a friends place. The option here was nearly spot on. Playing videogames all day and getting snacks at night. Oh how I long for days where I just didn’t have to worry anymore.
But like when summer turns into fall, everyone has to move forward with their life eventually. But that can’t let me stop reminiscing about that summer day.
You can check out the last day of summer here.

Disclosure: I am personal friends with the game’s creator, but they did not have any influence with this review.
