There seems to be another resurgence on all-in-one devices gaming devices lately. Go to your local store and you will see miniature arcade cabinets that contain five or so games. If you happen to find those a tad bit cumbersome and want something in the shape of a Game Boy you are in luck. The company dreamGEAR came out with a cute little device called the Go Gamer Portable 220. Is it worth your purchase though?

Before we go through the games lets discuss the hardware on hand. Stylized after a Nintendo Game Boy Pocket, the system feels cheap and light to the hands. At 7 inches high and about 5 inches across it fits comfortably in my hands. Don’t expect any fancy technology with the screen – it has a 2.5-inch LCD with some God-awful viewing angles. It’s so reflective that it could be bothersome to look at after a period. The unit isn’t rechargeable as it takes three AAA batteries.

Now on to the games. All 220 of them.

Upon the startup of the unit, you are greeted with some Microsoft PowerPoint made start screen with generic music.

There are some games right off the bat you can start with such as Golf, Basketball, and side-scroller shooter called City Battle. Golf and City Battle were the most fun out of the main games – with the former being the better.

Then there is a sub-menu of categories such as Puzzle, Action, Venture, Table, Sport, and Relax.

I was able to go to the puzzle menu where there were games like Tetris. Tetris is Tetris, it’s a fun time waster.

Now here is why the title is called an attempted review.

I took a break and set the unit down. A few hours later I decided to check it out again, but it wouldn’t turn on. I swapped out the batteries and nope.

c'est la vie
