One of the main reasons of why I loved the Vita was due to it’s vast library of rhythm games. To this day I carry around it with me on my commutes so I can just play a quick round of THE iDOLM@STER: Must Songs or Xonic. When the Switch was first announced I knew it would be the successor to the Vita in one way or another and I had a gut feeling that rhythm games would find itself on the platform. So when Voez was announced for the Switch I was ecstatic and was the system seller for me. Sorry Mario.
Voez is a simplistic rhythm games that literally anyone can pick up and play. You follow the notes on the screen as it falls and you either tap, hold or slide your fingers across the screen. Originally a mobile title, Voez found its way to the Switch and adapted well to the hardware. You don’t need to use the Joy-Cons here, this game is all touch screen. I would heavily recommend removing the Joy-Cons during gameplay for comfort.
There are four difficulty modes that you chose from – easy, hard, or special and around 116 songs. The songs range from dance to your stereotypical anime sounding piano tracks. Don’t expect to see anything western in the lineup of tracks. It’s music anyone can enjoy. A friend and I were playing it in the presence of people who weren’t into said music and enjoyed it.
The artstyle found within the game is pretty gorgeous in its own right as well.
This is a pure rhythm game through and through so don’t expect any other mode. Depending on your view, that may be a deal breaker for you. But because of that, it makes the game less overwhelming and as I said earlier, makes the game easy to pick up and play.
If you are into rhythm games or want to get into the genre, I highly recommend this title regardless you play on the Switch or not.
