Y Tu Katamari Tambien

Every week we’ll be recommending you a game and either an album or movie to check out. This week I’m recommending Y Tu Mama Tambien and Katamari Forever

Y Tu Mama Tambien
Two childhood friends from different walks of life take an older woman they’ve become infatuated with on a road trip to a beach they made up called Boca del Cielo (“Heaven’s Mouth”).
The film, while low budget, is very intimate in its Documentary film style. This is something that has been used a lot lately in a variety of ways, but in this case the Hollywood influence is completely absent. The road trip set up gives the main three a chance to show their often contrasting perspectives on the lives they live and how they feel, while the narrator fills us in on the world around them. You’ll see the film go through themes of sex, culture, politics, and close friendships among others.
Cuaron (Gravity, Children of Men) gives us a film that took him back to his Mexican film making roots. In the end we get another example on how a simple film can take us on a deep and complex journey.

Be the ball. Katamari Forever is pretty much the same fun you can expect from a Katamari game. You are a Prince (or one of his cousins) of the cosmos and must roll up enough junk to make a star for the King of All Cosmos. A remake of sorts, it has most of the stages of the previous titles. While the main objective can be straightforward, at least within this game, there are other modes and challenges you can take. One of the challenges, for example, is making a fireball big enough for a campfire with the ball (careful not to roll into the lake.)
The presentation is colorful and the items you roll up have a simplistic geometry making them look like simple toys, which is of course by design. The story of course is weird, but a non-issue. I’ve heard if you’re under the influence you can understand it. Sadly, I have yet to try.
So you’ve never played this weird but fun game, this would be a very good place to start.
