IT’S A DISASTERPEACE

By Omar (@neo_graphyte)

Every week we’ll be recommending you a game and an album to check out. I’m back on the scene this week with a true Disasterpeace.

You might not know Rich Vreeland, but you’ve probably heard his music. He’s begun to become prolific around certain scenes, known recently for scoring Fez and The Floor is Jelly, as well as the recent horror film It Follows. His style varies from project to project, but he’s generally known for a strong sense of atmosphere and electronic elements that heavily call upon chiptunes.

While projects like LEVEL or The Floor is Jelly show off his control of pace and atmosphere my personal favorite album are the B-side compilations Midnight Orphans and Noon Kids, which, while seemingly disjoint, show off the kind of range Vreeland can perform at. Regardless, it’s good music all around.

You can find his albums on Bandcamp.

On the games side, this week’s game is Rescue: The Beagles, a game where you play as one of two elite animal rights activists saving a crashed shipment of beagles off on their way to an animal testing facility. It’s a tiny little score attack game that has you running back and forth across the play area as it scrolls, dropping and climbing the levels of the area as you save adorable beagles and shoot owls to knock out bioharzard agents and lab executives. It’s adorable, fun, and free, so there’s really no reason not to check it out. Disasterpeace also contributed a track to it, which is how I found out about him.

You can find it here.
