Rogue Legacy is the most challenging action roguelike platformer I’ve ever played. The game was originally released on June 27, 2013.

The game has quite an interesting concept, every time you die in the game you are replaced by your successor which you choose. There are 3 choices of heirs that you can choose from to carry your legacy. The game is set in the middle ages, you play a Knight and you’ve got to navigate castles, towers, dungeons and forests to kill all the bosses.

The rooms are all procedurally generated and the traits you garner when you choose your heir are randomly generated. Traits range to the obvious to the obscure. Traits that have a big impact like A.D.H.D. which makes you move faster, Vertigo, which results to the character having its gravitational home to the ceiling, color-blindness which makes the game black and white. And traits that don’t really have any impact like being Gay.’’ There are a few classes to choose from like Mages, Knights, Dragons and so on. Different heirs also have different spells, there’s a few that exist like Axe, which throws an axe, Fire Barrier, which creates a force field of fire around you and many more.

The game does get a bit frustrating having to restart from the beginning every time you die. And not resuming back to the same rooms, yes it’s completely different rooms you step into each time. The game does make you play more careful and as well as that have more hatred for it each time you die. This game is unreasonable. Though after playing it again and again and again and yet again you do sort of get into the groove of things. It’s quick pace and your characters feeble health, will be something to get used to but you do get used to it. As you go through the game your enemies get stronger and stronger, bigger and bigger and more annoying each time.

Rogue Legacy’s got a consistency, it’s consistently surprising and it’s great. This pacy game keeps you on your toes like a game should. This game is properly tricky to play, this would be a great fit for those who excel at action oriented games but nonetheless the game is amazingly fun to play.
