Tormentum: Dark Sorrow Review

By: Omar(@siegarettes)

There’s a trend in the realm of dark fantasy towards a homogeneous aesthetic. Tolkien-que worlds into situations marked by lives filled with horrific daily violence in order to bring a sense of “maturity” or gravitas. Tormentum: Dark Sorrow removes itself from that trend by presenting a world of warped steel and flesh, lavish and intimate in its construction. Well, visually removed, at least.

Let’s craft one more bomb

By: RJ (@rga_02)

The plot is akin to a Saturday morning cartoon. You are a teenage girl trying to save your teacher’s workshop from closing. The evil government is trying to thwart your progress but fails constantly. It’s nothing great or horrid. The plot isn’t the reason why I adore this game. It’s the quirkiness displayed by the protagonist Rorona and the vibrant cheerful mood of the Atelier Rorona Plus captured my post-ironic heart.

KA-LACK LACK. KA-LACK LACK. KA-LACK LACK. Wheels on concrete. Waves of wood on steel rails. The feeling is familiar, known and comfortable. I’ve been here, and done this. Covering OlliOlli was my first paid gig, the first time I turned my words into cash. I know it well. Coming to the sequel, I found it easy to slip back into the same rhythms, feel the same suspension of time in the moment before touching down. Everything from back then is still here, but in a lot of ways OlliOlli 2 reflects the game in my memory better than the original did.

Resident Evil Revelations 2 is an exercise in mindlessness

image

By Omar (@siegarettes)

Resident Evil Revelations 2 is a mess. Not an interesting mess born of risk taking and failed execution, but one that feels as if it was created backwards. As if it took ideas and worked in reverse to justify them within the framework, instead of building a framework around them.

This is a game that cribs both from the series’ history and outside games without understanding anything about what made those elements work. I’m going to run them down, but let’s start with the big ones: co-op and episodic structure:

Despite what you might think about Resident Evil 4, there is no denying that game set the path for how the current mainline Resident Evil games plays out. Fans now long for the “pure” survival horror feel that the series was once known for. In 2012, Capcom answered to those cries by releasing Resident Evil Revelations. It was a throwback to classic Resident Evil with modern mechanics. Now, it’s time for a sequel that isn’t bound by limitations of a handheld, but the twist this time is that it is an episodic adventure.

Rogue Legacy is the most challenging action roguelike platformer I’ve ever played. The game was originally released on June 27, 2013.

The game has quite an interesting concept, every time you die in the game you are replaced by your successor which you choose. There are 3 choices of heirs that you can choose from to carry your legacy. The game is set in the middle ages, you play a Knight and you’ve got to navigate castles, towers, dungeons and forests to kill all the bosses.
