The Games We Played is a year-end round up of thoughts about games we spent time with.

It’s been a while since my beloved 765 productions has been featured on a portable title. The last “true” game were Shiny Festa for the PSP and iOS devices. You could count Must Songs for the Vita – but those were just skinned Taiko games. When Theater Days was announced for mobile I was excited, I would finally have my idols I know and love in my pocket once again.

The Games We Played: Sonic Mania

Sonic Mania is an incredible achievement. It’s a game I looked forward to since its announcement, and one that I had total faith in knowing the team behind it. It’s smooth, modern, and has great boss fights and a few surprises that I appreciated.

Voez (Switch) Review

One of the main reasons of why I loved the Vita was due to it’s vast library of rhythm games. To this day I carry around it with me on my commutes so I can just play a quick round of THE iDOLM@STER: Must Songs or Xonic. When the Switch was first announced I knew it would be the successor to the Vita in one way or another and I had a gut feeling that rhythm games would find itself on the platform. So when Voez was announced for the Switch I was ecstatic and was the system seller for me. Sorry Mario.

The Games We Played: I Still Haven’t Beaten Everybody’s Golf

I don’t understand the appeal of EA’s monolithic sports franchises. I mean, I get it, but at the same time, I don’t get it. Sports games are typically rehashed every year with a few embellishments and updates to the physics engines, or in some cases a full blown campaign is added to supplement the usual fare that comes with what one might expect with a sports game, but there’s a special place in my heart for games like Everybody’s Golf.
